E-Bike Safety Reminder for Parents & Guardians

Posted Date: 04/16/26 (04:00 PM)

As e-bike use continues to grow, we want to ensure all of our students are riding safely and responsibly.

Please take a moment to review the attached graphic outlining Texas e-bike laws and safety guidelines with your child.

A few key reminders:

  • Students should always follow traffic laws and ride responsibly
  • Helmets are strongly recommended, especially for riders under 18
  • E-bikes should only be used in appropriate areas—not on sidewalks or crowded campus spaces
  • Safety equipment (lights, brakes, etc.) is required for proper operation
  • Any “bike” that goes faster than 28 mph is considered an electric motorcycle and would be treated as a motor vehicle, not a bicycle
Parents/guardians play an important role in making sure students understand and follow these rules. Your support helps keep everyone safe on and around campus.

If you have any questions and/or concerns, please contact Bonham ISD Police Chief Hunter Templeton at 903-583-7474.

Thank you for partnering with us to promote safe riding habits!
